2026 LENTEN SEASON FAST (Also in Devotional, page 6)
The purpose of Lent is for believers to prepare for the coming of Easter through prayer, abstinence, repentance, and self-examination. Many commit daily (excluding Sundays) to “giving up” certain luxuries to replicate Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days. The abstinence is replaced with a Lenten spiritual discipline such as reading a daily devotional, praying, or meditating to draw nearer to God.
From Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2025, until Resurrection Sunday, April 20, 2025, the Ben Hill United Methodist Church congregation is encouraged too collectively:
- Pray for Spiritual Growth
- Pray for Young Adults
Participate in one of the following: (Please check with your doctor to make sure you can participate in the type of fast listed below)
- The Daniel Fast (See reference above)
- Fast and Feast: Fast for a certain number of hours (i.e., from 5:00 am until 5:00 pm) then Feast by consuming all daily calories within a certain number of hours.
- One Meal Fast: Consume all daily calories via one meal each day.
- Individual Open Sacrifice: Abstain from a personal guilty pleasure while seeking support/discussion/guidance from a trusted confidence.
- Technology Sacrifice: Abstain from using electronic devices, social media, and/or streaming services from 5:00 PM – 5:00 AM daily (unless for essential job-related tasks or school related tasks).
