Our Blood Saves Lives

The Health and Wellness ministry has contacted Red Cross for a blood drive; however, we must have at least 40 people to pledge to donate before we will receive approval. This ensures that the Red Cross staff is not wasting their time to set up and not receive a sufficient amount of blood.

Blood donors are needed to help ensure patients have access to lifesaving blood. One in a 3 African American blood donors is a match for a patient with sickle cell disease.  Are you that one?

Blood types fall into four major groups: A, B, AB and O.  Some patients require an even closer match than the main blood types. If a patient receives a transfusion that is not a close match than the main blood types, they may form antibodies.  Individuals who receive frequent blood transfusions, such as patients with sickle cell disease, need to receive the most compatible match possible.
